Snippet: "Eulogy"
Eulogy. Noun. A speech or writing in praise of a person or thing, especially a set oration in honor of a deceased person. You'd usually assume such a speech would be given by one who actually knows the dead well- and yet I've been pushed to write a long winded expression of gratitude to a boy I'd never known until that day. There's nothing nice about writing for a fellow you don't know. The only thing I know about the poor boy is his name and how he died. If you asked me about his life, I could merely sit and stumble as I try to grasp what he could possibly have been like as a person. I didn't know him growing up. I didn't know when he was born, who his parents were or how he lived. Supposedly we went to the same school, but I don't remember once sharing an exchange of any sort. I'd never heard his voice, never seen his face before that day...
Yet somehow, they expected me to write some sort of glorious monologue about how wonderful he was. Of course, the one thing I knew about him was that he'd saved my life- that was surely something to deem wonderful in some way. But that doesn't mean I can say anything else. So why is it that I, who have the least knowledge of this boy, am writing his eulogy to attend his funeral?
Because it's my punishment for causing him to die.
